AWAM - Association of Williamsburg Area Ministries

These are challenging times that we are facing in America right now. We have been there before as a nation. Revival and transformation are often birthed out of desperate times. What a blessing that we can come together and share with each other and pray for our needs and appropriate the time to stand in the gap for our city and our nation.
AWAM is a group of pastors and ministry leaders from the Williamsburg area that meet monthly for fellowship, worship and prayer. We love and honor Jesus Christ as our first priority and primary motivation. We offer a place for ministers of different denominational or racial backgrounds to get acquainted outside their normal ministry settings and an opportunity to build relationships with each other.
The AWAM group has an interest in the spiritual and social conditions of the greater Williamsburg region. We realize that there is a spiritual synergy when ministries and churches cooperate together for the spiritual and social transformation of our community. Therefore, we sponsor or participate in several events each year designed to serve as a catalyst for that transformation.

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” ~ II Chronicles 7:14

Essential Doctrines of Christianity
To feel comfortable with the Bible devotions, conversation and relationships with those attending AWAM you would need to believe in these essential doctrines of Christianity. These statements are intentionally concise and are included as information for those interested in attending AWAM and being involved in the corporate ministry and gathering we do. There are many other important doctrines that we will not list or discuss here.
1. The Deity of Jesus
A. Jesus is God in flesh
1 John 4:2-3: "This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world." Phil. 2:5-8; Heb. 1:8
B. The Doctrine of the deity of Christ includes:
i. The Trinity - There is one God who exists in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are all co-eternal, and of the same nature. ii. Monotheism - There is only one God in all existence (Isaiah 43:10; 44:6,8; 45:5,14,18,21,22; 46:9; 47:8).
The Hypostatic Union - That Jesus is both God and man.
2. Salvation by Grace
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast" (Eph. 2:8-9, NIV).
3. The Resurrection of Christ
"And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith" (1 Cor. 15:14). "And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins" (1 Cor. 15:17).
4. The Gospel
"But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!" (Gal. 1:8-9, NIV).
5. Monotheism
There is only one God (Exodus 20:3; Isaiah 43:10; 44:6,8)
3. “You shall have no other gods before Me. 4 You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing loving-kindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments," (Exodus 20:3-6).
